Climate change is one of the biggest problems facing modern times. It is not just a threat to any one nation, but threatens to destabilize climates everywhere. The “greenhouse effect”—which occurs when the atmosphere traps heat radiating from Earth toward space—is affecting climate change at an alarming rate.

Many of the world’s leading scientists agree that human activities are changing the Earth’s natural greenhouse. Activities such as deforestation, burning of fossil fuels, land-use changes, and factory farming are just some examples of contributors to this global crisis.

This rise in global temperature has already been having some significant effects. Oceans are warming, glaciers are melting, and each year there is less snow coverage, and snow is melting sooner.

While studying the effects of climate change in this unit study, encourage your kids to come up with solutions on how they can help.
